One of the consequences of our modern "throwaway" lifestyle is that many devices or products that would once have been repaired now end up on the scrap heap. Contributing to growing problem of waste. Many of these items are not recycled as it is often not cost effective or energy efficient to do so. With some basic skills and a little time many of these items can be easily repaired, remaining in use and out of the city dumps.
The East Leeds Repair cafe enables people from around the circuit as well as in the local community, to share their gifts and talents by helping people to repair broken and damaged items rather than simply replacing them. The repair cafe will enable us to share God's love with the people of East Leeds in a really practical way while also helping to reduce the impact of human activity on creation.
On Saturday 30th of July we are holding a recruitment session at Cross Gates Methodist Church looking for volunteers to offer their skills in repairing a wide variety of items from clothing to computers and home electronics. We are also looking for people to help with hosting, guiding people through registering their items as well as serving refreshments and providing a listening ear.
To find out more check out our Webpage where you can find out more about the different volunteer roles as well as more about how the Repair Cafe fits into A Methodist Way of Life.
You can also join our Facebook Group to keep up do date with Repair Cafe News and the dates for Upcoming Sessions.
If you have any questions or would like to be involved please get in touch with our circuit Mission and Ministry Enabler Paul Coleman via the link on the repair cafe contact page.
