Statement from Cross Gates Methodist Church

Crossgates Methodist Church has made the difficult decision to cease meeting for worship. The decision is currently awaiting formal confirmation by the District Synod. Once this has been received, expected in late September, work can begin on transferring the managing trusteeship of the building.

The earliest this transfer could take place is 23 November. Until then, no decisions can be made regarding the future of the church buildings. The managing trustees are required to follow both Methodist Church procedures and charity law during this process.

It is hoped that the church hall will remain available for community use for several months into 2027. User groups will be given a minimum of two months’ notice of any changes affecting their arrangements. Further updates will be shared as more information becomes available.

As part of this transition, a final service of worship will be held on Sunday 27 September at 3.00pm, to which all are warmly invited.
