Welcome to our two new ministers

mark stennettedward sakwe

This September we are delighted to welcome two new ministers into our Circuit. We will be doing this by ZOOM Webinar, on Wednesday 2nd September. "Doors open" at 7 p.m. and the service will begin at 7.30 p.m.

Rev'd Edward Sakwe comes to us from the Cannock Chase Circuit in the Wolverhampton and Shrewsbury District. This is his third appointment in British Methodism, having served previously as a Minister in the Presbyterian Church of Cameroon. He will have pastoral oversight of Roscoe Methodist Church and Trinity United (LEP).
Rev'd Mark Stennett comes to us from the Tadcaster Circuit in the Yorkshire North and East District. This is his third appointment. He will have pastoral oversight of Alwoodley Park, Chapel Allerton and Newbourne Methodist Churches.
Please hold both of these ministers and their families in your prayers, and the five different churches in the Circuit who will be receiving a new Minister at this time.
The preacher for the service will be our own Chair of District Rev'd Kerry Tankard and he has chosen two readings for the service. As part of your prayerful preparation for this service you might like to look over these readings. The first is Matthew 10:40-42. It comes at the end of the chapter where Jesus has sent his disciples "on mission" to copy what he himself has been doing in his own ministry. These concluding verses of this chapter stress the importance of receiving those who are sent to us from God as itinerant missionaries.
The second reading is from Romans 12:1-3 (part of last Sunday's epistle reading). In these verses Paul begins a section of teaching on how we are to put into practice in our lives, the experience of God's grace that we have received. He outlines the consequences that God's grace makes for our behaviour. Paul is looking for a radical metamorphosis of our minds: that means we don't conform to the standards of this world, but live in a way that shows our minds are remade by God's grace. The subsequent paragraphs show what Paul is looking for, in terms new behaviour and attitude, so you might like to read on further into that chapter and the next ones (12:1- 15:13)
